The Adverts of Christmas Past: InQuire Looks Back
As the festive season kicks off and John Lewis’ Monty the Penguin becomes a familiar face on our screens, Jennie Nee looks back on the TV adverts past and present that have defined Christmas over the years. Every year, the elongated build up to Christmas has the television screen bursting with countless adverts that associate themselves with the Christmas cheer. Over the years, there have been some memorable and widely discussed adverts. Most recently is the new Sainsbury’s display, which utilises a vastly impactful historical World War One event in marketing their store; something which has divided public opinion. In relation,…
From peach fuzz to massive beards – Kent RaG Does Movember
November is the month for facial hair! Alasdair Lawrence tells us more about how Movember started and the growing movement, and below, Natalie Tipping talks to Asim Janjua from UKC RaG about their plans for Movember. Photos by Medhi Abakarim. Photos also edited by Medhi Abakarim and Ana Sufana (Head of art direction). It’s November again, which means Movember -the moustache-growing movement, is upon us. Less of us perhaps know the history of this movement which has taken the world by storm. Melbourne, Australia. The year…
Review: Stephen K Amos’ ‘Welcome To My World’ at the Gulbenkian
It was a personal turned political affair for Stephen K Amos’ audience on Saturday evening. Stephen K Amos can’t exactly remember how many times he’s been to Canterbury, but he is more than determined to get reacquainted. Limping on to the Gulbenkian’s stage with a bad foot, you already want to buy the guy a drink – and it is exactly this personable quality to his comedy that makes tonight’s show a pleasure. In classic comedian manner, he scours the front row for victims, conjuring up nicknames for three or four audience members and returning to them for quick jabs during his set. Seen it all before,…

Vote on May 7th! And give the carpenter a ladder while you’re at it.
First Past The Post (FPTP); this is the sole sentence a non-voter need utter to justify why, come May, much like in 2010, and 2005, and 2001, and every election day which went before, they did not exercise the most liberating and hard fought right U.K. citizens possess. And I don’t blame them in the slightest. Sure, we can recycle the old rhetoric about how people died to give us the vote and that you can’t complain about the government if you don’t put that empty ‘X’ in the box, but regretfully, these tired lines from vote-obsessed citizens…
